    The Bar Council of India prescribes the AIBE 21 eligibility criteria 2026 on its official website. Law graduates aspiring to appear for the All India Bar Examination should go through the AIBE eligibility criteria 2026 before applying for the exam. The AIBE 2026 eligibility criteria include conditions about the minimum educational qualification, the AIBE age limit, and more. Law graduates from a law school approved by BCI are eligible to appear for AIBE. As per the judgment passed by the Supreme Court of India, candidates who are in their final year of the LLB/ BA LLB programme are also eligible to appear for the All India Bar Examination. Candidates are also no longer required to have enrolment certificates from a State Bar Council to appear for AIBE.

    BCI will conduct AIBE 21 in offline mode on June 07, 2026. Candidates who clear the AIBE will be eligible to obtain Certificate of Practice and become advocates. However, it must be noted that if candidates fail to meet the AIBE exam eligibility requirements, then they will not obtain the CoP even if they clear the AIBE exam.

    BCI notifies the All India Bar Examination eligibility criteria on its official website. The AIBE is open to all law graduates who have completed either a 3-year LLB or 5-year LLB. Final-year law students are also eligible to apply. There is no prescribed AIBE age limit. Candidates without an enrolment certificate from a state bar council can also appear for the AIBE exam.

    What's new in AIBE 21 Eligibility Criteria

    The Supreme Court of India passed a judgment to allow final-year law students to register and appear for the AIBE exam. However, the AIBE results for such final-year law students will be subject to their passing all the subjects in their law programme. The AIBE results will have a certain period of validity. Final-year candidates, as well as candidates without an enrolment certificate, are eligible to register for AIBE.

    1. AIBE 21 eligibility of final-year law students (Without Backlogs): Candidates who are in their final semester of a 3-year or 5-year LLB degree and pursuing it from a BCI-recognised University or a College approved by the BCI are eligible to register for the AIBE exam. It must be noted that these candidates must have no backlogs from previous semesters.

    2. AIBE 21 eligibility of law graduates who have not obtained their degree: The 3-year or 5-year LLB graduates who have passed from BCI-recognised universities or a college but haven't obtained their degree are also eligible to apply for AIBE. This also includes the graduates who have completed their 3-year or 5-year course and are awaiting degree conferral.

    3. AIBE 21 eligibility of graduates who have obtained their degree but have not enrolled or have surrendered enrolment certificates: Candidates who have obtained their LL.B degree from a BCI recognised university or BCI approved college but have not enrolled with any State Bar Council, as well as those who had enrolled but have surrendered their enrolment certificates, are also eligible to apply for AIBE exam.

    4. Ineligibility Based on Non-recognition: Any student or graduate who is currently studying or has passed out from a university which is not recognised or approved by BCI will not be eligible to appear for the bar exam. Candidates will have to ensure that their educational institution is duly recognised by the BCI. Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria will be able to register for the AIBE 21 exam. Following that, during the registration process they will have to fill and submit undertaking and self-attested, scanned documentation

    AIBE Eligibility Criteria 2026: Number of attempts

    As per the Bar Council exam eligibility, there is no limit on the number of times a candidate can appear for the AIBE exam. A candidate can take the All India Bar Examination until he or she clears it. As per the BCI notification, the minimum passing percentage has been fixed at 45% for General and OBC candidates, and 40% for SC/ST and disabled candidates.

    AIBE 21 Eligibility Criteria: Validity of Registration with State Bar Council

    Candidates are no longer required to compulsorily enrol as advocates with a state bar council before appearing for AIBE. As per the earlier norms, by enrolling once, candidates were eligible to appear for AIBE any number of times. The provisional enrolment was valid for two years to become an advocate. So, if a candidate clears the AIBE exam after the expiry of two years, then he or she should enroll as an advocate with the state bar council yet again.

    AIBE Eligibility Criteria 2026 for PwD Candidates

    Candidates belonging to the PwD category are allowed extra time to attempt the AIBE. However, to avail this benefit under PwD category, candidates are required to produce the following documents:

    • They must have the required certificates issued by a proper medical authority to prove their disability.

    • They should also meet the specified percentage of disability to be categorised as disabled as per the eligibility for AIBE exam.

    AIBE 21 Eligibility Criteria: Exemptions

    Candidates who obtained their law degree before 2009-10 are exempt from appearing in the All India Bar Examination. Such candidates are allowed to practice law without the need to clear AIBE.

    AIBE Eligibility Criteria for Obtaining CoP

    Any candidate who obtains the minimum qualifying marks in AIBE becomes eligible to obtain the Certificate of Practice (CoP). BCI will prescribe the qualifying marks in AIBE. Candidates from the general and OBC categories will have to obtain 45% marks to qualify in the All India Bar Examination. The qualifying marks in AIBE for candidates from SC, ST and PwD are 40%.

    AIBE 21 Application Form 2026

    BCI will open the AIBE application form in online mode on February 11, 2026. Candidates can register for AIBE 21 by visiting the official website: allindiabarexamination.com. The application process for AIBE involves steps such as registration, uploading of documents and payment of the application fee. Successfully registered candidates can download the AIBE admit card online on May 22, 2026 and appear for the exam, which will be conducted in offline mode on June 07, 2026, at designated centres across the country.
