As per the AIBE eligibility criteria, final-year law students without backlogs and candidates without an enrolment certificate are eligible to complete AIBE 21 registration in addition to law graduates who have completed either a 3-year LLB or a 5-year LLB. The AIBE 21 2026 exam will have questions on basic legal concepts taught in the LLB courses. BCI revised the AIBE syllabus last year, with three new law topics being added, namely the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.
The AIBE cut-offs for the general and OBC categories are 45 marks out of 100, and for SC/ST candidates, the cut-off marks are 40 out of 100. Candidates who clear the All India Bar Examination will be awarded a Certificate of Practice. The CoP is a mandatory certificate to practise law in India. Candidates registering for the All India Bar Exam without an enrolment certificate must submit it after publication of the AIBE result; otherwise, their result will be withheld. The Bar Council of India will issue the AIBE CoP to successful candidates by dispatching the certificate to the state bar council in which the candidate has enrolled.
What is AIBE?
A standard test for law graduates, AIBE is a certificate-based examination conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI). BCI conducts the AIBE exam to test an advocate's ability to practice law in India. The AIBE exam tests the skills of law graduates at a fundamental level and sets the minimum benchmark for admission to the practice of law. Law graduates who want to appear for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) must also complete enrolment with the state bar council. The AIBE exam is only open to candidates who have completed either a 5-year LLB or a 3-year LLB degree. AIBE is conducted in 40 cities across the country, in 11 different languages. Passing the bar examination or AIBE is mandatory for law graduates in India to represent clients in a court of law.
The AIBE 21 eligibility criteria have been revised. Candidates who are in the final year of their law programme without any backlogs and candidates who do not have an enrolment certificate are eligible to register for the bar exam. Three new topics have also been added to the AIBE syllabus, namely Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. However, candidates without an enrolment certificate must submit the certificate after the exam; otherwise, their results will be withheld. Similarly, the AIBE result for final year law students will be provisional and they must clear their graduation exams.
The AIBE 21 syllabus consists of 19 subjects from different areas of law. There will be 100 multiple-choice questions covering the 19 subjects. Each question carries one mark. The total marks in AIBE is 100. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.
Candidates who clear the AIBE are awarded a Certificate of Practice (CoP). The CoP is a mandatory certificate to practise law in India. Since AIBE is a qualifying exam, all candidates who clear the AIBE cut-off and pass the exam will be awarded a Certificate of Practice.
